Passion to Build: Prahaladbhai Shivrambhai Patel

The Vision and Dedication Behind PSP Projects’ Record-Breaking Achievements

How PSP Projects Built the World’s Largest Office Complex with Vision and Dedication

When Prahaladbhai Shivrambhai Patel founded PSP Projects in 2006, he was already a well-known figure in the construction industry. Starting as an engineer and later becoming a partner in his previous company, he had built a strong network of clients and suppliers. PSP Projects began with a few civil projects, but thanks to Patel’s reputation and connections, the company quickly found success.

Over the years, Patel led PSP Projects to undertake significant construction projects for both large corporations and the Indian government. This year, PSP achieved its most significant milestone yet: completing the Surat Diamond Bourse in Gujarat. Not only is this the world’s largest diamond trading center, with a floor space of 660,000 square meters, but it also surpasses The Pentagon in Washington, DC, as the world’s largest office complex.

A Vision Fueled by Passion

Patel’s passion for construction has been the driving force behind PSP’s success. “I have always been passionate about my work, the technology we use, and our quality,” he shares. This passion has translated into a prestigious project portfolio, opening doors to even more significant opportunities.

After completing the Surat Diamond Bourse, the company has seen a surge in high-quality opportunities. “We are now seeing better opportunities, and that is the growth we are seeking,” Patel tells The CEO Magazine.

Building on Strong Foundations

Patel believes that success comes from top management’s involvement and creating a company culture that ensures seamless workflow. “Success comes from your involvement,” he says. “It’s about creating a culture within the company that makes the workflow automatic.”

Recognizing the scarcity of high-quality resources and labor in the construction sector, Patel had PSP’s processes audited by Deloitte. The audit suggested focusing more on processes than people. As a result, PSP implemented SAP’s enterprise resource planning (ERP) software in 2012-2013. “In this 10-year journey, every process of purchasing, finance, and HR in all our projects has been governed by the ERP,” Patel explains. This focus on standard operating procedures (SOPs) has been pivotal to the company’s success.

Core Values: The SPIRIT of PSP

PSP is driven by its core values, encapsulated in the acronym SPIRIT: Speed, Passion, Integrity, Respect, Innovation, and Team.

  • Speed: Delivering projects on time is PSP’s unique selling proposition.
  • Passion: Patel’s passion for his work, technology, and quality permeates through the company.
  • Integrity: The loyalty of PSP’s clients stands as a testament to the company’s integrity.
  • Respect: Non-negotiable respect in all interactions is a cornerstone of PSP’s culture.
  • Innovation: PSP was the first in Gujarat to have a ready-mix concrete plant, to buy a tower crane, and to install SAP.
  • Team: Building a strong team at every level of the organization is crucial to PSP’s success.

Committed to Sustainability

Patel stresses the need for the construction industry to reduce its carbon footprint. “Presently, the industry is notorious for its carbon footprint. We have to keep looking for ways to reduce the usage of power and water at the construction site,” he emphasizes. This responsibility starts from the top and permeates through the company’s culture.

Valuing People and Partners

Patel recognizes the vital role of PSP’s employees and suppliers. “My laborers and vendors are the pillars of my business and my growth,” he says. Understanding their challenges and ensuring their well-being is a priority. “We make sure our laborers feel safe by creating high-quality and hygienic facilities at the worksites.”

The company also values its major partners, such as L&T Electrical & Automation, which provides reliable power solutions crucial for maintaining PSP’s pace of work. “They play a key role because their timely delivery at the project site is extremely important,” Patel notes.

Looking Ahead

As PSP Projects continues to grow and achieve new milestones, Patel remains focused on his passion for building and his commitment to excellence. With a strong foundation, clear values, and a dedicated team, PSP is poised to continue leading the construction industry into a future of innovation and sustainability.
